OK.....been reading all the WPE stories, gotta tell mine.

I had WPE7BCS, put the certificate in a frame hanging on the
wall of my shack. First rcvr was the 40 meter version of the ARC5.
Thought I'd died and gone to Heaven when I got a confirmation from
Radio Havana, along with many sheets of Castro's doctrine written
in tiny print. I'm sure they thought I was going to read ALL that stuff.
But, best QSL was from Radio Peking, along with little box of propa-
ganda and one of Mao's little "Red Books". Still got that stuff some
where, but never partook.

First call was KN7YDD, and I too built the 6L6 rig, but used a 6V6
because I couldnt afford a new tube. It worked great, but got a visit
from two grey haired gentlemen who were very helpful, telling me that
my signal on 20 was as good as the one on 40 (7168 crystal), so we
spent a couple nights at one fellow's shack and got the bugs out of the
little rig, plus cut the power back some by raising the value of the screen
resistor. 4 watts was about all it could do and stay stable. But sure
was fun.

Best to all
