Gangue:
No, this is not a SPAM message! It really is QRP related.
I found a deal that I couldn't refuse at a local Comp-USA store.
It's just what is needed for portable QRP work.
They have for sale a small calculator type device, that is *MUCH MORE*
than a simple calculator, and after the rebate, it's *FREE*!!!!
Crammed into the case is a 24 Hour dual time zone clock, and alarm voice
recorder and calculator
It's called the Aurora "Pocket Elephant", model VR200, and it has the
following features:
---- 4 function calculator with memory. Great for figuring antenna
lengths,
preliminary contest scores etc. But wait there's more:
---- Large display (great for +50 year olds!)
---- 12 or 24 hour clock, with 2 separate time zones accessed with one
keypress.
---- Perfect for QRP portable work, keeping track of both local and GMT
times.
---- Both clocks easily set with keypad, allowing perfect WWV
synchronization.
---- Alarm with snooze (nice BIG button to reset).
---- An all solid state voice recorder/playback unit with built in Mike
and speaker.
---- Can handle one 20 second message or up to 4 separate recordings.
This is a great feature during contests for copying down those
super fast, or hard
to hear stations, for playback later. Since it's solid state, the
rewind is
instantaneous.
---- The alarm clock can be set up to playback a previously recorded
message as the alarm!
---- An elapsed time display indicates voice message time remaining.
Believe me, 20 seconds is a lot longer than you might think!
---- When not using the features, other than the voice recorder
function, there
is a nice little hinged cover that slides over the keypad, allowing
full access to the
display and to the record/playback buttons. Through the unit into
the camper, and
not worry about accdidental key presses messing up the time etc.
---- I'll just bet that one could open the case and find even more uses
like:
An SSB automatic CQ'er by hooking up the speaker terminals to he
mike input,
contest exchange playback etc. This probably does void the
warrenty though I would think.
So, you might want to buy 2. I think that I can afford *FREE*!
And here's the clincher:
It's priced at $9.99. Not too bad of a price you say?
Well from 1-3-98 until 1-17-98 the comapny provides a $9.99 rebate!
That's right...the thing is FREE after the rebate!
Well you DO have to pay the sales tax...
There *is* a 1 per customer limit. If you do need more than one,
you can always enlist your kids, wife, neighbors etc.
I have NO connection whatsoever with CompUSA, or the Aurora company.
