If you have web access, there is a good explaination of the maidenhead grid
system on the arrl site [www.arrl.org]. You'll want to go to the contest
section. It describes the grid system and how it is used very well, and
gives you information on how to find your own grid.

Grids are primarily use on the vhf and higher bands.
