Straight Key Night, Mobile

Went to a party, but got to operate on the way. Worked W1BFN and W4RE,
although I was up at 35 watts.

Tried QRP, but it just couldn't get through last night. Anyway, it was
pretty cool doing straight keying while mobile. Talk about the effect of
the rough road! If you thought having the keyer sending an extra "dit"
was bad, how about slurring three dahs together into a big blob?

Anyway, I never had a keyer for the first 8 years of my ham life. I
learned and practiced use of a "straight key" on a Vibrokeyer, using it
side-saddle, which is what I did last night. I was amazed that I could
still hold about 18-22 wpm pretty comfortably, and that I started to get
the ol' fist back after about 3 minutes of embarrassingly bad sending.

I looked for people to chat with on the way home, but nobody was calling
CQ SKN, and calling CQ didn't net anyone. Oh well. The party was cool.

72 to all and remember, it's 01/01/1998 (MM/DD/YYYY and DD/MM/YYYY are
the same!), and there are only two more years until all the computers come
to a grinding halt, so plan ahead! At least my radios don't care what the
date is :^)
