I am in the process of collecting information on assemblying a low power
portable packet station. I plan to use an old IC-2AT (2 watts output),
the Tigertronics BP-2/2M and a 486 laptop computer. The laptop is rather
large and heavy compared to the vhf radio and modem. I am intrigued by
the possibility of using a HP palmtop computer but I do not have any
experience with this piece of hardware.

Can anyone provide me with the following information on the HP palmtop
computers either 100 or 200 models?

1. Sources of information (books, literature etc.) on the hardware and
software interface. I would like to understand the method for loading and
retaining the program necessary to operate as a TNC.

2. Anyone have any hands on experience with these units?

3. Has anyone interfaced the palmtop for this type of application?

4. Is their a used market available for the palmtop as the new prices
appear to be a bit high?

5. Any other thoughts on this type of application?
