Hello Eric!
I agree with all you said about radio waves. That is exactly what got me
involved with
amateur radio. I used to go over to a ham's house and watch/listen to him
talk wwith people in Russia, and listen to the great accents, and then watch
as he made CW contacts with Japan, Australia. That just blew me away.
Needless to say, when I made my first HF contact with a ham in the
Netherlands back in 1992, I was *hooked*. Another thing I enjoy is getting
exotic QSL cards from all over the world with beautiful stamps.
I have been away from the hobby (somewhat) due to bottom of sunspot cycle,
but my interest has picked back up. I enjoyed working Jim in Alaska with 5
watts and an attic dipole (AL7FS). I have several hobbies (amateur radio,
model railroading 0/027, SWL, camping, Boy Scouts, and my most favorite
hobby...my two sons). My 12 year old is working on getting his Tech plus
license.
Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post about radio waves. It really is magical.
It is like taking a magic carpet ride. It is truly amazing what you can do
with a few watts and an
attic dipole. Here's hoping the magic in radio continues to amaze us forever!
