Radio Waves BLOW MY MIND!!!

Fellow Ham Ops,

I don't care HOW many books I read on science, or on
radio waves, or modern technology, sometimes it just
seems like plain and simple MAGIC to me what exactly
happens!

I mean I had a QSO with a cat in New York the other
night, and here I sit in my spare bedroom in Wylie,
Texas (Near Dallas).

I'm using around FOUR WATTS - it's going from an
antenna in my attic, out of my house, and ALL THE WAY
TO NEW YORK!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?

I think we "modern technologically advanced" humans tend
to think we know everything, that everything is science and
easily understood, but the fact of what I'm doing simply blows
my mind and to me it's simply MAGIC!

If I were to get in a CAR and DRIVE up to New York - the
distance I would travel, and the time it would take, and allllllll
the sights I could stop and see along the way...and here's my
little measly 4 watt signal whipping across that same distance,
over hills, mountains, STATE AFTER STATE, over highways, through
rain, over rivers, through forests, across American city after city and
town after town, over houses with people sleeping, and on and on
until it reaches this guy in New York?? MIND BOGGLING!!!

I'm serious folks I have to laugh when I think about this! I think
most people take it for granted how radio signals work, they don't
get to FEEL the magic like we QRP operators do every day!

Perhaps this is why it's so important to try and show the kids
of today about Ham radio - not so they can grow up to be geeks
like you and I, but so that they can actually put down their books
and EXPERIENCE the magic of radio!

I know how those olf folks feel who refuse to actually believe
that man has walked on the Moon!
