For the fun of it!

                                Even unto QRP Radio

                           (The Gospel according to Bob.)

In the beginning, when God created Amateur Radio on the eighth day,
there dwelt among the people the great
and garrulous tribe of Ham, who took it upon themselves to spread the
Word amongst all the Nations. And,
even though their Powers were circumscribed by the Almighty, they made
much out of little - such was their
diligence and skill in the mysterious Art.

>From time to time they paused from their labours, between schedules, and
looked upon their works, and lo -
they were good! And feelings of great pride and self satisfaction welled
up within them, and tidings of great joy
and good will were keyed out across the firmament through the
insubstantial ether. And the children of Ham
multiplied and prospered in all of the Lands, and great was their Glory.

But then came the vast hordes from the homeland of Yagi in the Far East,
saying "We can mass produce better
gear than this - and turn a good profit at the same time!" - And the
sons of Ham said "Yea verily, these are true
words, and we would have to have rocks in our heads to think that we
could compete in quality or complexity."
And they laid down their pliers and soldering irons, and their keys fell
silent, as they gave themselves up to the
shallow pleasures of high powered SSB. Their rituals became corrupted,
and black clouds of ignorance and
indolence once more enshrouded the Globe. And Darkness fell upon them!

But behold, a small band of True Believers still remained, hidden away
in dilapidated shacks across the World -
and they said unto each other "What's so good about all of this glitzy
gear? Is it not true that all you need is a
bag of gold to get on the air? And is this not a deplorable situation?
And have not standards fallen as a result?
And were not we better satisfied in the old days?" - And lots of other
things along similar lines! And they raised
their whithered bodies in revolt, and spake unto the younger generation,
saying "Get with it ye dreamy clots!
Wherefore grabbest thou not hold of thyself? Behold, this is the way it
is really done! We beseech you - forsake
the false profits like Yaesu and their Icoms! You don't need all of that
paraphernalia to really enjoy yourself!
Keep it simple stupid!" - And stuff like that.

Some of the wiser members of the youthful generation heard the Word, and
took heed of these
admonishments, and thus were they delivered from the hands of the evil
god Consumerism and restored unto
the fold. And they went forth with a renewed gleam in their eye, and
multiplied.

And so it came to pass that the Old was turned back unto the New. The
Old Men rejoiced, and pounded their
Brass noisily, and a great and joyful shout went up in all of the Lands,
saying "We have never had so much fun in
all our born days!" And the air was filled with the singing sounds of
"dahdahditdah ditdahdit ditdahdahdit". And
the great Spirit of Achievement returned to dwell among the people. And
all was Sweetness and Light!

Thus had the wheel turned full circle. And it was seen to be good. The
lowly powered regained their birthright!
The Supreme Being was mightily pleased. "Did I not tell ye that the meek
would inherit the Earth?" He reminded
them, and from His lofty vantage point a beaming smile radiated forth to
dispell the QRM!! - And the Brethren of
Morse ascended, to sit once more in their rightful place beside the
Throne.

AND THAT'S HOW WE HAVE COME TO THE NEW MOVEMENT
TOWARDS THE USE OF LOW POWERED, HOME CONSTRUCTED, CW RIGS IN
MODERN HAM RADIO - USUALLY REFERED TO AS THE "QRP RADIO"
MOVEMENT.

Just for the fun of it!
