I had a nice visit this past fall from WB9RAA, Ed March, from up in
Illinois. While he was here I showed him my NC40a and we talked a while
about it (he did most the talking, I did most the listening<g>). He'd
never worked qrp (though he got a surpise 38s in the mail since then)
and was impressed with the rig. Well, all good things have to end and
he and his family headed back to Illinois.
A couple of weeks later I got a package in the mail from him. A couple
of small toys and a 10-TURN PRECEISION POT. Well, I hadn't really
wanted to do any modding to my NC40a (it was my first kit...it'd be a
sin to mar it with a mod), but the other day in a weak moment I
installed the 10-turn pot. SHAZAM!!! SHAZAM!!! SHAZAM!!! It was
purely amazing how installing that pot helped my tuning. I mean, I'm
picking up stations that previously I'm sure I wouldn't have heard. It
spreads the signals out so well that you can split two just a
"tuning-hair" away from one another. I mean, this little mod really
got me smiling.
I know, I know....everybody knows how well this pot change helps. But,
for those out there that haven't done it or are not sure about doing
it.....all I can say is....JUST DO IT! <g>
So, for something so simple as this I've done got all excited.
It's amazing, I tell ya, simply amazing!
