Al, I replaced the final in my Sierra with a 2sc1306 that was a pull from an
old 23 channel CB. ( The common cross reference is to a mrf 476 as mentioned .)

The leads have to be crossed over ( collector is in the center ) , and the
transistor sits up kinda high ( especially with the $ 2 radio shack heat sink ),
but it barely gets warm @ 5 w out on 20 and 40 .

I also get significantly more out on 17 m than the stock 3553 did.

These transistors were designed to be used at 27 mhz and make good rf .
I havn't built modules for 10 or 15 m yet , but will when the spots improve.
