Folks,
I guess being a new Ham and new CW Op I'm expected to
make mistakes - but I made a whopper of one today!
I had just finished my 10th QSO with my HW-8 on
7030, and signed off.
I then put down my headsets and started messing around on
the internet some.
About 10 mins later I pick up my headsets to try another contact
and find someone's got a steady carrier there..I then realized it was
ME! The bar on my key was somehow slid over! OOPS!
I felt bad about that! I guess I learned - when not on the radio -
turn it off!!
Now what if I had been REALLY silly and not noticed
this situation for say 2-3 hours? Would I have been in
trouble?
BTW the guy I just copied in KY - he said he was running ...
(I THINK he said) 700 WATTS!! SEVEN HUNDRED!!
I told him I was pushing out 4 Watts and he gave me 559 -
seems kind of funny me talking with him so very far away with
4 and him way up there at 700!
He told me he read me fine for QRP (Not bad for my attic job
eh!? - Nine states so far!) - and that it was fine, but added that
in these days of band conditions QRP will not cut it.
Hmmmmm....
Also I'm starting to see that some folks sure go overboard with
their CQ'ing!!! One cat was on for about 30 full seconds calling
CQ!! (zzzzzzzzz put me to sleep will ya! I heard your callsign the
first 10 times but it's getting boring!)
Perhaps like in the "real" world - some folks just talk just to hear
the sound of their own voice!?
