Howdy folks... the weather was 85 degrees &
sunny, so I figured that the afternoon was
meant for more than work! Punched the
vacation clock, & here I am.
Fired up the newly modified MMA vertical, and
talked to NU5X/M on 40 meters, and W3PA on
30 meters.. got 579 & 559 respectively. YES, it
works! When the sun sets, I'll try out 80 meters
& see what's up. More to follow. Oh, NU5X was
in Hot Springs Ark, & W3PA was in Bedford PA.
Modifications - If you have a SD-20, go to <DEL> key.
I only had a BWidow 13 footer, so I added 4' of 1 1/4"
pvc to Vern's base, mounted the coil on top of that,
then the BW-13 on the top. With the entire coil in,
it resonates at 3.430 (so sez my MFJ-249). Just what
the doctor ordered... & NO ANTENNA TUNER.
Works pretty bueno!
