Hi Gang --

With the help of several of our members, I have accumulated what
seems to be a fairly complete listing of Q- and Z- signals. I'll be
happy to send copies of the files to anyone who wants them (warning:
the files are 67K and 99K long).

I couldn't have done this without help from many people,
including Doug Faunt, N6TQS, who sent me two huge files (the
Z- signals list is his) and Jim, G4RGA, whose Q-signals list
(forwarded to me by Doug) is the foundation for the list I'm
distributing. Also: Paul Valko, W8KC, Glenn, V31RY,
Steve Lee, AB7HI, Paul Harden, NA5N and Sandy Blaize W5TVW.

There are still some gaps in the Q-signals list. Anyone
with a real early Q-signals list is invited to contact me. I
believe that the version I need will be dated before 1940, perhaps
as early as the 1920s, when aircraft communications were
primarily by Morse. As voice became more popular, some of the
less used Q-signals were dropped, and these are the ones I am
trying to recover. I believe that at one time, there were
no gaps in the sequence.

Anyone willing to post the two lists on a web site is
encouraged to do so!

72,
Peter, KA1AXY
