HOTEL Ops

It takes some gumption plus acting casually to string up antennas in
or from hotels.

In one motel I put a bumper mounted 80 meter (Pro-Am) on the back
window sill, then laid out two full sized radials along the building.
Worked just fine and kept some skds from RI to NY.

In Ecuador my wife and daughters commented that it was not funny that
"CQ CQ CQ from HC1CK" was coming out of the public address system.
Poor wiring practices in the hotel, they just put the speaker wires
on the roof and the wires tended to "attract" my RF and AF too! Moral
of the story -- use QRP CW only because most folks can't understand
CW!

Try anything -- once in upstate NY I hung a 10 meter dipole from one
room to the next using the sprinkler pipes for support -- worked
Argentina and no problems except that the doors had to be kept opened!

Most important, don't stay in places that do not face the desired
direction, no access to the roof, no trees or other suitable antenna
supports. Pick rooms that fit the antenna plans.

Use earphones and avoid shouting into the mic. Better yet use CW

PS I've yet to be asked to leave.
