I put the XYL and last nestling on a plane this morning to go to the
east coast and visit the other two daughters, so Samson the QRP dog
and I are on our own. First inclination was that we should put a "No
Wimmen Aloud" sign on the door and just hang out in our undershirts
drinking beer and watching basketball games on TV, but instead I
decided to (finally) install an HF antenna mount on the car.
This evening we (Sam and I) drove out to the east of town a bit to
watch the eclipse and the comet and see if we could scare anybody up
on 40M. All three missions accomplished, but couldn't actually
operate mobile because the paddle kept sliding around, so there's
some re-engineering to be contemplated.
Had a nice chat with John, WA6YEE in Porterville, CA, where it was
stormy and so I had to do a "play by play" of the eclipse.
A very pleasant start to my "vacation week." [g]
