I ordered the AADE Digital Frequency Display kit from Milestone Technologies
last week. Marshall Emm (AA0XI) announced it's availability on the reflector.
I ordered it via their web page on Tuesday night using a credit card. I
received notification of the order and intent to ship on Thursday, with the
option to cancel if I really had not ordered it. I received it in the mail
today (Tuesday).
While listening to the fox tonight, as well as the CQ'ers on him, I reveiwed
the "instructions". This isn't your Heathkit, 38S, or Rainbow tuner. There
is a sheet of construction notes, and it states that that it "assumes a
reasonable high level of kit building experience". This isn't so, in my
opinion. While this kit shouldn't be someones first kit, the schematic and
parts layout pictures, with the construction notes, makes this a reasonable
easy kit to assemble. I listened for the fox, never did hear him but heard
around 50 stations calling him, and put the kit together in less than an
hour. Powered it up and and no smoke leaked out. Hooked it up to my HW-8
and it worked. I've got it "sorta calibrated". I'll get it to a friend
with a signal generator in the next few days to get it "dead on".
I plan to use this one as a bench top freq counter for now. At $50.00 each,
I may get a couple more to install in specific rigs, like my NC38S and/or HW-8.
