Wow, that was a long time ago! The HW8 still performs
as a vacation rig. As far as I remember the component
choice was not critical. But I don't have data sheets any more,
and I've mostly lost contact with G-land where I got the stuff.
The toroid hosts an RF transformer and the core is about
half an inch diameter. I haven't tried Amidon FT50-61but
that is where I would start looking for a second source.
The OA90 is a general purpose, small-signal, germanium
diode with axial wire leads and a glass case. The low
voltage of germaniun (0.3 V) compared to 0.7 V for silicon
motivated the choice.
