Paul, in reading your post on the ham stick I thought maybe a better
gound is the "only" problem. As the ham stick is very narrow in band
width, a. a good ground is a must, and b. you must tune the antenna with
the whip on the end.
I have used ham sticks mobil and portable for three years with great
success, but a large car or van is best for the portable ground. Also a
gud antenna tuner will allow your match to go to 1 to 1. Don't try
working cw and ssb at the same setting on the antenna, that's just too
much to ask.
In the car I can work almost every sig. I can clearly hear, including
most DX stations. Have fun, the ham sticks should work em!
