Oh, happy day! :-) :-) :-)
My friendly UPS delivery(person) just dropped off the OHR100 20m kit at
my front door! Other than the OHR WM-1 wattmeter I have (that you
couldn't pry from my fingers) this is my first OHR transceiver kit, and I
must agree with K5FO, it is a quality product.
The PCB is so pretty without the components on it, it's almost a shame to
start construction! You may want to frame it instead! I don't think I've
ever seen ANY PCB that had more beautiful silk screening or solder mask.
Dick, whoever you are using for your PCB manufacturing, DON"T CHANGE!
Rather, give them a big hug instead! Maybe the PCBs made by SONY are a
first runner up, if you guys and gals have ever owned a SONY product -
you know how pretty they are. This one equals or surpasses it. Ten-Tec,
please take note.
After checking the remainder of the packaging, and nodding approvingly at
the nice cabinet (it's a real heavy guage aluminum stamping) and the nice
finish / labeling. I am very impressed and satisfied with the quality of
the parts in their little bags. This is gonna be a fun project to build,
and I'm definitely gonna have to build another OHR kit REAL SOON after I
finish this one!
All parts seem to be of premier quality, wonderful components familiar to
many of us: 2N5179 pre-driver, 2N3866 driver, 2SC2078 PA. This baby
should really cook on 20m with those components! Very nicely done parts
list and separate schematics for the receiver and transmitter. Parts
pictorials and chassis drawings VERY familar of the best I've seen in the
HeathKit days. Wonderful!
Many thanks to those who helped organize the QRP-L group buy, and thank
you Dick for getting these kits out to all of us. Your work is very much
appreciated and I want to personally congratulate you for a job well
done!
Am I a happy camper? You bet your biffy I am!
Even the tissue paper that surrounds the kit and cabinet was very, very,
neatly taped around the contents. I appreciate little details like that;
you know care went into making this kit. Kudos to OHR!
Is that a slight smell (wonderful!) of tobacco I detect coming from the
kit? Even though I don't (and have never smoked) smoke, that aroma
reminds me of when I was a kid. A pleasant reminder of a happier time in
life, and even if some of you don't care for tobacco, it was a nice
surprise for me. Not at all objectionable.
Hope all of you in on the group buy have a similar pleasant surprise
waiting for you on your doorstep when you get home. Details of the
construction and performance to follow, although Chuck has already
covered that very well on his home page. Listen for me on 14.060 Mhz in a
few days to hear how it sounds!
Gotta go now, and savor the experience.... :-) :-) :-)
72 to all,
