Kris - I agree with you that quads are a thing of beauty. They are a unique
blend of rigid members held together with taut fibers; compression nicely
balancing tension, ying and yang.
One person who replied to me after my post stated that they are ugly. I
told him there is no such thing as an ugly antenna.
I use a single loop for most of my work. It is 30M in circumference, fed
with 5 M of balanced feeder. This makes a nice multiband antenna. I keep
meaning to put up another loop parallel to it for a fixed quad, but have
not gotten around to it on my to do list.
The quad in its full size version is a relatively low loss antenna when
compared to trapped tribanders and so is a nice match to QRP.
Like I said, the trouble is keeping them up in climates with wind, ice or
wet snow.
