Well, I figured out how why the tick was not keying...it was a bad 2n2222.
(Thanks to Jim Bennet, W6JHB for the tip)
Fixed that and it was just fine. Connected the RIT wires up right and
that works great too. Adjusted R24 and R17 to the audio level and hiss of
my liking. So far, so good.......

Then put in L101 but FORGOT to cut the trace. Very warm transitor with
not output. Cut trace, new 511, still no output. Suggestions as to what I
fried? I suspect U4 did not like 12volts. Any other parts not happy with
this arrangement that I should look at?

NA5N voltage chart suggests U4 should have 3.6 volts at pin 12, 14, 16,
18.......I am now getting 8 volts. No consistent measureable AC output as
well and something like 140 mv DC with my homebrew RF probe and Fluke 77.
Comments appreciated......anybody else do this already? ;-)

Please, tell me that this HC240 chip is easy to get at the local parts
store!
