Since I got so many questions on this one here it is
again.
For the HW-16 receiver mods to increase the sensitivity, get
out the schematic and look for R21 and R42.
R21 was 22K. Change it to 10K. (I think 1W R is needed here)
R42 was 5.6K. Change it to 51K. (Probably 1/2W will do here).
How many of us still have the larger resistor wattage values
in our junk box? I'll bet not many.
It would be interesting for someone to take a tube receiver
(I don't care which one, say a Heath, a Collins, and/or a Drake)
and compare them to todays receivers in QRP rigs, like the OHR
series, Wilderness, NN1G, etc. It would make interesting
reading material. Lab quality review would be awesome.
Of course, new tubes if possible in the old receiver or at least
checked to specs.
