I fully agree Ed-with the caveat that often the things that appear in QST
become de facto standards-and a recommendation (or even example) from/in
QST is a powerful suggestion. Ten Tec uses the power version I mentioned on
its 100W OMNI VI transceiver and matching power supply-and THAT choice I
would have been more appreciative of. Availability is indeed another
consideration, and there the PowerPole falls short-there *ARE* SOME of the
power version Molex/Waldom types available at 'Shack (my standard for what
can be obtained relatively easily.)
I figured this would stir things up a bit, and that's good... we all need
to do a good job applying and using connectors. Their failure(s) can be
costly (mostly in terms of operating time lost) and occasionally dangerous
(when they short/burn up/etc.) and thus they deserve a lot more attention
and care in selection, utilization, and construction than they usually get.
