Having only become a recent (and still very casual) contester,
I can appreciate the "Keep WARC Contest-Free" sentiment. Nothing
worse than wanting a quality ragchew, meet a new friend on the
air, etc, only to find that a contest is taking up the bands.
Or worse yet, having one blindly start calling CQ on top or your
ragchew. Some contester's ears don't seem to activate 'til *after*
they've tuned up on you. :-/

True, QRPTTF, 'Afield, FYBO, etc. aren't nearly on the same
scale as the Monster Contests (SS et. al.) but they can be
surprisingly big. Even 40-50 QRPers crammed into the bottom
20Khz of 30m is going to make things a wee big snug. :-)

Then there's the danger that other "small" contests, QRO
this time, would begin to follow the slippery slope.

Indeed, but I think one of things that makes 30m such a great
band (other than the power limit) *is* the light usage
relative to 20m/40m. Always easy to find a spot to call CQ for
a ragchew. 30m to me is the equivalent of a national park -
After spending a hectic week in the rush-hour crunch of the
other bands, you can retreat to 30m, stop, smell the flowers,
take a few pictures, etc. Some us end up staying there. :-)

Then there's Chuck's TMPS (Thirty Meter Propagation Study).
Now *that*'s a perfect "contest" for the WARC bands....

Well there *is* the Super Secret WARC Enforcement Squad
of the Judean People's Front. They used to be a suicide
squad 'til they all killed themselves in training. Still
a nasty bunch though - mean streak a mile wide. :-)

"What, a RAW FROG?!? Don't you even take the bones out?"
"If we took the bones out they wouldn't be crunchy, would they?"
