I've held a ham license since 1973, but until last night, never
=INTENTIONALLY= made a QRP contact. About a year ago I acquired a HW-8, but
it has gathered dust ever since. I fired it up for the ARS sprint monday
night, but power line noise (I have a set of 60+KV lines running about 25
feet away from my antenna, and we have plenty of beach fog to lay salt
deposits down on the insulators) made it impossible to hear anything on any
open band. Yesterday, however, was a dry day. About midnight I powered up
the HW-8, heard a CQ and answered it. Much to my surprise I got a call back.
I was 579 in Washington. When I mentioned I was running only a few watts I
got "GOSH-ONLY 2 WATTS??? GOSH THATS A GUD SIG FER THAT PWR" What a thrill!

I gotta do this more often!

73,

John
