     Thanks to the many nice posts yesterday on the
     proper method of tuning my 38S. Using the FT-840
     as a reference signal (rx/tx) was the ticket.
     (As Homer Simpson says "Doh")
     
     Still seeing some strange stuff when sending, which
     may be why nobody is answering me! Instead of boring
     everybody with details here, if you would be interested
     in helping me, please post a private message and I'll
     tell you the gory low-down! (Actually, the answer is
     probably very simple, just eluding me)
