Bob et al... Although there IS supposed to be a code on the lengths,
occasionally-to-often on surplus stuff, the leads will either be cut or
even backwards. One surefire way to identify the cathode lead is to look
into the interior of the LED... there will be one relatively straight lead
and one crooked, almost L-shaped lead. This crooked lead will almost always
be the cathode. (In over 20 years I have found only ONE exception: an IR
LED used in a Heathkit WX station. Never did understand why the reversal on
it. I cannot remember if the current crop of Blue LEDs follow this-I think
so however.)
