Yes John, confessions are good for the soul......particularly when made by
someone else!! I did the SAME thing on this project. Thank you for helping
me "come clean"! The manual did definitely lead me astray, as it seems to
have done to you. Anyway, mine is now working super-duper! This is a very
nifty tuner.
I think the biggest negative of the whole project was the manual. Don't know
how the others feel, but I think it left a bit to be desired in a few places.
Not really a big problem though, as long as you read CAREFULLY!
Folks, I am running the AT-11 "QRO" model, but it works very well with most
of my QRP rigs. The QRP+ excites it just fine. Still have to try the
Sierra.
By the way, I have checked into the Columbine net on 3989 khz for the last
two nites using my QRP+ and this tuner. Both times I have been complimented
on having a "nice signal", so the tuner must be doing something! I am in
Tucson, AZ and the NCS for the net is up in Wyoming and/or Colorado.
My antenna set up for 75 meters is kind of interesting. I am running an
inverted vee, up about 35 feet, using 450 ohm feedline. The feedline goes to
my Ten-tec tuner because it has a special input for balanced line (uses a
balun). Then I run through this tuner (bypass position) to my AT-11.
Convoluted for sure, but this way at least I can use balanced feedline. I
did have to "trim" things up a bit with the manual controls on the AT-11, but
what the heck! That's what they are there for! I add this little tid-bit
because some time back someone asked if you could run some sort of balun
system into the AT-11 and make it work with balanced line. I guess the
answer is "YES"!
I nominate Scott Rosenfeld, NF3I for the "Elf of the Month" award for putting
the group buy together for us!
