Gang,
Congrats on the fine work done by Larry and Mike. And yes,
Doug does live in the Desert. :-)
If it is OK, with Doug, I will send Doug a check for $100.
We will give both the 'team' members a TenTec 13X0 kit. This
ups the antee on Doug's and my end for this work.
The TenTec kits will be a no-brainer for these two guys. All the
way around for sure.
The purpose of the exercise was completed way beyond both Doug's
and my expectations. We knew it would be done and we knew it would
be done fairly rapidly.
More importantly we saw a methodical approach to problem solving.
We saw that if you document as you go (heck, Larry wrote a book)
and you do research you get much further and you learn much more
than if you just jump in the middle and hope that you know and you
hope that you learn enough to get the job done.
The postings by both gentlemen were appreciated and welcomed and
if everyone paid attention and didn't immediately hit the delete
key almost everyone learned something. It is like being there.
Both Doug and I are teachers. We have the desire to see everyone
take pride and joy in education and learning. It is the thing
that separates us from the rest of living organisms on this orb
we call our home. I love when people post about technical libraries.
Spend as much as you can on books, both new and old. Don't let them
die and don't let them wind up in some dusty musty crusty basement
or garage or attic. Oh, and be sure to read them. They do open
up, you know.
Many want to jump in and contribute on the prizes. For myself I
say hold on to your contribution. Use it to help others. Since
four years ago when we formed this group the central theme has
been and I hope will long continue to be 'pass it on'. Do a
good deed for others and offer help when help is needed. We as
a community grow daily with little tidbits posted by others.
We say "hey, a neat idea. why didn't I think of that? I'll
use it on the next project, antenna, whatever...". This group
has a lot of knowledge and a lot of information and a lot of
money as a whole. People are watching us. Some are jealous
and others try to belittle us and cause us difficulty. Let us
all continue to work together and go forth and conquer greater
problems that confront us tomorrow and the next day.
Now Doug and I could go broke doing this all the time. So
there is not another problem in the wings at this time. The
other radio is being kept by the owner and hopefully he can
learn from the experiences we saw so elegantly and swiftly
posted to this group. We will continue to give back to the
community as time and resources permit. This is fun.
OK, back to your rig and back to your workbench. I know you
all have a project still in the box. Aren't you inspired to
get to work on it yet? Shame on you if you are not. :-)
Get on the air. We still need more entries in the logbook.
I will be on when I'm in town to add to the TX count. It's
now a challenge. I'm working on another project and will
let you know how it goes when the results are posted on the
Internet. No fair speculating.
dit dit
