I too took my Novice and General CW sending test from the FCC. They were
strict and fixed in how you took the test. But could it have been because
their primary responsibility was to commercial radio and telegraph
licenses? Amatuer licenses were a side duty.
When I sat for the Advanced the FCC agent in charge talked me into taking
the 2nd Class Radio Telephone test, and I passed. If it had been left to me
I never would have taken it.
