40 meters at 40 feet

Jim and Nancy pose an interesting problem.

The answer is to go for a quad!

Crazy! you say, Snow and ice loads....

1) Quads have lower angles of radiation than do yagiis at the same
height.

2) If you are not into rotatable quad arrays, the task is simplier
and yo can go for triangular elements instead of square.

3) If you want to rotate, then build 1/2 sized square elements --
size of 20 meter loops -- using loading coils in each corner.

4) While in TI2-land I built a 2 element and then 3 element 40 meter
quad and hung it in a eucalyptus tree at about 40 feet (at the top!).
SSB on 40 meters QRP to Siberia brought, "It is an honor to have had
this QSO!" The snow load in San Jose was light :>)

5) See the write up in the ARRL anthology a few years back.

Quads, just like QRP, is a way of life -- don't get caught using a
Yagi!
