Milestone Technologies is delighted to offer this complete
board kit for a miniature digital frequency display and
frequency counter (DDF) from Almost All Digital Electronics.
It's designed to display the frequency of operation of HF,
VHF, UHF and SHF superheterodyne (with an adjustable IF
offset) and direct conversion (without offset) receivers and
transmitters.
The DDF can also be used as a bench-top frequency counter or
built into other test equipment-- usable, and accurate, up to
32 MHz as is, or up to 8GHz with an external prescaler.
The DDF uses a PIC16C71 micro-controller which has a built in
A/D converter. Two channels of A/D conversion are available,
and can be used to program a frequency offset, usually equal
to the IF frequency of the receiver or transmitter. The range
of offset (IF frequency) is 0 to 32 MHz in 500 Hz increments.
The unit then measures the Local Oscillator frequency and adds
or subtracts the IF frequency offset. The result is a display
of the actual receive or transmit frequency, with resolution
to 100 Hz. But the DDF has two discrete inputs so you can use
it as a direct reading frequency meter without the offset.
A high-visibility, low current, contrast controlled, 16
character LCD display completes the unit, a an example of the
displayed information is "14.2251 MHz USB." The unit is 3.125"
wide x 1.4" high x 1" deep, open frame construction, intended
to be built into something else or put in a small cabinet.
Power requirements are 8 to 18 volts, 20ma. (Works great on a
9 volt battery).
