A qrp transmitter can be built quite easily using glowfets and not-so-high
voltages. No toroids involved either! Receivers can be a bit more
bothersome, but several of the crew have worked each other using single-tube
Hartley oscillators and two-tube regen receivers. Bob, NA4G in Raleigh, NC,
has several Hartley transmitters that have as perfect a note as any SS rig
around, so it is possible to have an excellent signal from a simple
self-excited rig.
