I second Dan's suggestion about buying a copy of the ARRL handbook.
My copy is from 1986 and answers most of the questions I see on the
     list.

In addition, I would recommend a copy of the ARRL Antenna Handbook.
Mine is from 1977 and has a cover price of $5.00 !! Although I got it
second hand at a junk sale at a radio club which I used to belong to
     when I lived in Birmingham.

My suggestion is that, if you can't afford the price of the latest
copy of the Handbook, that you look for a second-hand copy. Even ones
from several years ago contain very useful information and often have
slightly different contents from the latest issue due to editorial
changes and need to free up space for new ideas or chapters.

Since QRP seems to be about doing more with less, then buying an older
copy of the ARRL Handbook will save you money (to spend on that next
kit of course) and give you a very useful source of information.
