Okay, it's MY turn to step up on the soapbox and say
a few QUIET, low-powered words about QRP...
Let the record show that this Ham, me, AD4SS, has NEVER
worked QRP - never even really been on the air 'cept for
doing some 2 meter stuff many moons ago.
But as for QRP - here's what THIS Ham thinks about QRP...
QRP is the most American hobby you can do for one thing..
QRP is as American as Baseball and hot dogs and Mom..
America (TO ME) is a beautiful and wonderful country because
we were founded on being the underdogs - we're PROUD
underdogs - we support underdogs, and it's a country where
underdogs can be top dogs! It's a country where misfit
underdogs became a world power!
When you're on the air at 5 or less watts my fine Ham friends - you
are THE UNDERDOG!! You are against a lot of odds - but by golly
your signal is JUST as important as the rest of 'em out there - but your
signal is SPECIAL because it's got a long way to go and a lot to accomplish.
Big watts- BAH HUMBUG!!
QRP is the spirit of accomplishment - it says something about the
soul and integrity of the person who wisely chooses to use it...QRP
is not a simply a means of operating in the Amateur world, oh no,
QRP is a LIFESTYLE...QRP is a PHILOSOPHY - A SPIRIT!
QRP is Theodore Roosevelt my friends - it's walking softly and carrying
a big stick.
QRP is Mohandas Gandhi, a single starving man taking on an empire.
QRP is the American Revolution in the form of a signal on the airwaves...
QRP is two brothers on a windswept sand dune with a strange laughable
"flying machine"
QRP took human form in 1927 and crossed the Atlantic in a SMALL
plane called THE SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS.
QRP tells the world - RELAX and take it easy - there's no need for stress...
You know the story of the tortoise and the hare? The turtle is QRP...
(I'll bet your Mom didn't tell you THAT part of the story did she?)
In a world of fast beautiful wonderful high-tech cars, why do we still have
BICYCLES on the streets!? Hmm? Bicycles my friends...are QRP.
QRP is about being the underdog with PRIDE. QRP is for the person who
knows that it's OKAY to be handicapped, it's OKAY to be against odds...
QRP is taking on POWER...being a rebel...it's being able to say - "I'm
PROUD of what I am - accept me for what I am"
Imagine a room full of loud, boisterous bragging men gathered together in a
room yelling and screaming and pounding their fists into tables to be heard
over each other...now picture a small quiet man in the corner who says nothing..and
then....finally..he speaks.....very very very softly...the big loud men in the room
look to him...and then something strange happens...the yelling stops - and they
LISTEN to the man carefully to hear what he said....and no matter what this
little man with the quiet-but-sure voice actually said - he gains the complete
attention and RESPECT of those loud men. That little man is QRP.
You folks are ALREADY winners and champions for using CW in the
first place - to use QRP makes you a champion among champions!
Will CW die out? Will QRP die also? DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!!
You can't kill a philosophy my friends....
Wow - after re-reading this email --- I think it's time that I went to bed...
it's been a long day! :-) I'm still waiting to get on the air - waiting for
my rig to get here..and when it does I'll join you all QUIETLY on the air..
but for now - with my straight key in my hand, I'll have to be content
to practice the ULTIMATE form of QRP!!!:
NO TRANSIEVER, NO POWER.......AT ALL...ZERO!!!
"CQ CQ CQ DE AD4SS...."
Can you hear me???
