Before you folks start getting all spun up again over a magazine article, let
me save you the cost of having to buy a copy of "Wayne's World", and explain a
little history.
Weenie Greenie has been an anti-CW advocate for YEARS. He used to regularly
carry sidebar articles in his mag about some guy going over the edge and
shooting up his boss' office, or some Extra-class ham, busted for some heinous
on-air behavior; he would then attempt to explain it all away as results of
the 20-wpm requirements for Extra. There was much less humor in his comments
than he wanted folks to think.
Weenie has also blamed what he perceived as the failure of the American
electronics industry, on the ARRL's forcing the FCC to retain CW requirements
for licensing purposes. His logic was that the CW requirements kept all the
creative people from getting into electronics, and thus, killed the industry
in this country. Logical, no?
And let's not forget his good buddy Bill Pasternak, a long-time no-code
advocate; Bill brags about how he was in that loft, helping to staple together
the first issue of "73". The last time I looked, Bill is still only
Tech-licensed; I often wonder if he ever did get tested for CW as a Novice
(they did that back in those days)? Just so you understand that Mr. Green has
a habit of surrounding himself with people that think exactly the same way as
he does.
So when you see anti-CW articles in "73", it shouldn't be any surprise at all,
to anyone.
BTW, is the article anti-ARRL? Wayne doesn't think so. In fact, I've got a
picture somewhere, of Wayne, grinning like an idiot, holding a 50-year
membership plaque from the ARRL (are you reading this, Doug?). Wayne thinks
he's helping things along...
72/3 to all,
