Thurs. / 160 meters:
Worked a stn last eve. from Maine who was running a
Cake Pan 5 - 2 tube crystal controlled transmitter,
and a 2 tube regen. receiver @ 8:30 pm.
Thurs. / 80 meters:
The Colorburst Sprint, 3.579 MHz (9-10 pm EST) featured
many xtal controlled stations, some using tube transmitters.
(Hollow state)
Sprint manager KF8EE/x (x for Xtal), noticed that many stations
were keying hand keys, as well.
Next Thurs., look for W1FMR/x keying with the old Vibroplex bug
(.... Jim the LID).
Just like the 1954 Novice days all over again !!!!
(But more frustrating)
It is difficult to make contacts, with everybody hovering
around one frequency.
You call CQ, then start tuning around for a reply.....
There were some EXCELLENT operators on last evening !
K2LGJ/x and W1XP/x are prime examples....
