Gang,
On behalf of FDIM and QRP ARCI, I have sent invitations to about 25 vendors
who would be of interest to QRPers, and the acceptances are already rolling
in. I will have a posting in a few days listing the vendors who expect to
particpate in the Dayton Four Days in May (FDIM) vendor program on Friday
night, following the QRP banquet.
Forgive the patronization, please, Gang, but life is short. We get to count
the great times of our lives on one hand or so. If you have never been, I
recommend Dayton as one of those times.
I notice the Bob Follett, our committee member in charge of sign-ups has
posted a list with more than 60 paid up already. The facilities for FDIM may
be limited. That means you must be aware that you can be shut out if you
don't sign up in advance. We were barely (just barely!) able to accomodate
the one or two people who arrived from overseas without advance sign up last
year. Don't take the chance. It isn't very hard to address an envelope,
guys. We came darn close to turning people away last year, and it would be
terribly sad to do so this year.
On the other hand, don't let the talk of shut-outs from FDIM or the hotels
keep you home. That's silly. You can still get accomodations at a number of
places if you try--and you don't lose anything by trying. But hurry up. Get
it organized. Yes, it will cost you some money. Bite the bullet. I can't
help thinking that as we get older, these opportunities, maybe even FDIM
won't always be there. Don't miss the chance to meet these people whom we
all admire and learn from. Even if the programs were poor (and they won't
be) it's the people you come to be with.
So, you need to get a room. Get a roommate. Get airplane tickets. Send in
your FDIM registration to Bob Follett. Send Pete Meier your reservation to
the banquet (also potentially limited, guys and you don't want to miss this
event). Buy your tickets to the Hamvention (you can buy at the door of
course, but you save a couple buck if you buy in advance.) Go talk to the
spouse. Get the time from the boss. Do it.
72,
Preston WJ2V, FDIM Vendor Chair
