30 Meters sounded completely dead this evening, so I called cq at 0109 utc.
After my second transmission, W8QOV in Ft. Meyers, FL came back to me. I
gave him a 599 (generous), and he gave me a 559. He was qro, running a
Kenwood and a Butternut antenna. I was using my trusty 5W 38 Special, and
a 125 ft inverted L antenna.
Don't just assume 30 meters is dead at sundown; if you don't hear anything,
call cq (over and over if necessary). As Chuck said, the band is always
open to somewhere. Ham radio isn't ESP, if everybody just listens, we
won't hear any signals. So, get on there and make some calls!
