Me again. I apparently caused some extra work for Doug and Jim with that
last posting on the SST. (Isn't the Internet great? You can make
thousands of mistakes at once! No waiting!)
****** Here's the scoop:
Because of the timing of the SST, it WILL NOT be kitted by Doug Hendricks
and Jim Cates. Please do not send them any SST questions. Instead, send
your questions to me, here at my home e-mail address:
Why? Doug and Jim have worked (if not Frozen) their butts off doing
38-specials, and 40-9ers before that. I asked them if they thought the SST
should be kitted by NorCal, and the answer was a worn-out "We'd like to,
but...." They deserve a break!
In lieu of NorCal, Bob Dyer of Wilderness Radio has taken on the task of
kitting the SST. He will take all the orders, too. So, while the SST is a
NorCal/QRP-L field test, and will appear in QRPp, it is not a NorCal kit.
The club price (see below) is good until May 1st, 1997.
By the way, Bob is not new to field-test kit runs: he did all of the band
module kits for the original NorCal Sierra.
PRICE AND KIT INFO
The SST is going to be supplied only as a complete kit -- no partials. It
includes a high-quality double-sided and silkscreened PC board; a custom,
unfinished .050 aluminum enclosure with hardware; all controls, connectors,
knobs, rubber feet, etc.; detailed manual; and all parts for your choice of
bands.
The club price for each SST is $69. TO GET THIS PRICE, orders must be
received by May 1st. All kits ordered at the club price will be shipped
after May 1st, probably in late May. After May 1st, the SST will be
available as a Wilderness Radio kit for $85. I will be updating the design
at that time based on results from the field test.
Bob will accept orders beginning now, but none will shipped until May.
ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Please enclose $69 per kit ordered before May 1st, and $85 thereafter.
2. For each kit ordered, you must specify the band: 40m, 40m/novice, 30m,
or 20m. (Remember, this is a VXO-based transceiver, so the rig does not
cover the entire CW band. Approximate coverage is: 40m, 7.032-7.042;
40m/novice: 7.105 - 7.115; 30m, 10.105-10.120; 20m, 14.046-14.064. Other
ranges are possible with small modifications.)
3. California residents must add 7.75% sales tax.
4. Shipping charges are extra: $3 U.S., $5 Canada/Mexico, $15 DX (other).
This is a per-kit shipping charge.
5. Please make out checks to Wilderness Radio, NOT NORCAL. We'll also
need your name, call, address, phone number, e-mail address.
6. Send U.S. funds only (checks drawn on US banks, or an international money
order) to:
Wilderness Radio, P.O. Box 734
Los Altos, California 94023-0734, USA
If you have questions send e-mail to me (Wayne Burdick, N6KR), or call Bob
Dyer at (415) 494-3806 (9AM to 6PM Pacific time, M-F). Thanks for your
patience and 73,
Wayne
