Guys, I don't know about the rest of you, but I cannot remember when I have
enjoyed postings to qrp-l more than the past 7 days. I couldn't wait for
the next installment, it was like the old days before TV when I used to
listen to the upright radio in my parents living room as a boy. The radio
serials were fantastic, much better than the drivel that I see at times on
TV, but maybe it was my imagination that was helping.
I got the same feeling reading Larry's postings, and I was holding my breath
when he finally turned on the power. I was pulling hard for him. He did
not fail, he gave it his best shot, and it was not to be, but to fail would
have required that he quit, which he refused to do. We all learned a lot,
and so did Larry, which is the purpose of the list. This contest came up
during one of the weekly phone calls that Chuck Adams and I have. I
mentioned that I was getting a rig back from a guy that had worked on it for
2 and 1/2 years, Chuck asked what it was, laughed and said that he had
worked on one of those too. I then said that it might be a neat contest to
see if the "guru's" on the list would like to get involved and fix it.
Chuck suggested a TenTec QRP kit for a prize, and we agreed to split the
cost. That is how it came about. It is succeeding because of the great
postings and communications that go on with this list. Do you wanna bet
that Mike Gipe, K1MG, who is the next in line, won't be conferring with
Larry and getting his help as he tries his hand. As Chuck says, Stay tuned.
Larry, thank you very much for your efforts and I owe you a beer at Hamcom.
72, Doug, KI6DS
