GEL cells are lead-acid designs. One can charge them forever from
a 13.8vdc source without damage. VHS VCR batteries are lead-acid
so for anything close to the ampere hour rating of VCR batteries,
the VHS VCR battery charger is a good deal. As a matter of fact,
I have converted over to VHS VCR batteries for my HT. They are
cheaper than the HT batteries, outlast nicads, and have a super
ampere hour rating compared to the standard HT nicads. I will never
have another dead $60 nicad battery pack. The VCR battery fits
well into almost any pants pocket.
