I have been reading the posts about the letter in QST - I have not
seen it yet, but there have been some very good answers to this
question. I just finished listening to two fellows in a cw qso
on 40, both were discussing the qrp question, neither were qrp
operators and were mostly against the qrp community. I thought
prejudice like that went wxxx away years ago - guess not.
Anyway, one said the QRP operation is ok in "its place". And
thatg"place" is in the outback, with battery operattxxxx
operation only, and it has no place in the modern shack where
electrical service is available so one can run many watts.
The other fellow said that he does not answer anyone that is not
above a certain s unit level above his noise - there forever ruling
out probably contacting any qrp operators. Whatever! Going to be
very interesting when the EPA/FCC rules are enacted and all those
running over the 50 watt level have to fill out many forms, certify
radiation leverls and file reports to the government that they
have the equipment to measure the above mentioned levels whereas those
of us running QRP are mostly exempt (unless there is a change in the rules)
because of the low power levels we run. going to be interesting
I guess the point to this is that the comments in the QST letter from
the new ham expresses the view of more than a few people on the bands.
