Jim Duffey KK6MC is driving down from Albuquerque tomorrow, where we'll
take off for our FYBO site on the Pound Ranch. Will operate from either
the high altitude ridge where you can see forever, or from one of the
corrals with a windmill (like for an aerial support). This will be
10-15 miles southwest of Socorro, NM. The Pound Ranch, incidentally,
is original homesteaded land and comprises of 13 sections of land.
So listen for KK6MC or NA5N bouncing between 20 and 40 ... and even
15M if its open. Howard K9PV will be setting up on a high hill several
miles away from us ... and Jay Miller WA5WHN is heading to the mountains
northwest of Albuquerque. So several of us in NM to work from the field.
I'll be using the St. Louis Vertical with W6MMA's loading coil mod for
one of the stations.
For those of you not going out to FYBO but prefer the comfort and
privacy of your own home ... hey jump in and participate anyway. Don't
feel like you've got to be up to your armpits in a snow drift to be
part of the action. These QRP contests are for everyone, so get on the
air and work some of us for an hour or two. If you've never done one
of these QRP contests ... well, they're just fun.
Got my Radio Shack thermometer calibrated and ready to go. Expect our
exchange to be "in the 40's."
CU tomorrow,
Paul NA5N and James KK6MC/5
