Well, I am going to be on the road for FYBO so I have put in some time
this week getting my mobile station together. Mounted the screw driver
vertical on the truck on a nifty mount. Built a box that would house my
DX70 and tuner and paddles strapped to the front seat. It is in a
usable position so I can try CW on the move. Even put in an alarm system
so I won't feel as bad when somebody breaks in an takes my rig. Hi Hi
Just in time for theis weekend's CW dx contest. Well, then my xyl tells
me we are going camping this weekend. Well I can turn up the power on
my DX70 for the contest. After all how much DX can I do with 5 W to a
screwdriver vertical?
Well I keyed it up and the curtis keyer went nuts (I guess I need to do
some bypassing). Oh no I guess I won't be having much fun this
weekend. Cut the power down to 5W and the keyer was fine. Will any one
hear me.
The first try was a PJ9. I was driving down the freeway at 60 MPH
towing our trailer trying to listen above the din of the kids, when I
heard AC6KW 599 KW. I wasn't even ready for a reply as I had no faith
that he would even hear me. "599 ca tu.." TU.. Wow!
Well as the day went on I worked 22 JA's, VE, XE, AL7, AH6, RX0, OH,
P40, and a V31. Most were running 500W to a KW. Hard to believe they
could hear my puny signal into a puny antenna. Well I was impressed.
Left it on 5W for the rest of the weekend.
I was also impressed that you can work CW and drive. It is not too
distracting except when you take your hands off the wheel and do your
little "Ooh boy" dance in the front seat.
I just have one question. Since I will be driving for the FYBO. Can I
run the Air conditioner for extra points?
