     Steve:
     
     A modified NN1G draws only 7 ma. See the articles in "QRP Power" by
     ARRL on the modifications. They mainly involve using low power
     regulators (a 78L08 draws 4ma of bias current, no load), a lower power
     op-amp for the audio, and changes to the T/R circuit.
     
     I built a modified version of this for the 80m sprint.
     
     I think a regular NN1G draws about 14 ma. In comparison, a Sierra
     type receiver or a Norcal 40a draws about 45ma.
