Charlie, if you have a multi-mode controller (fancy tnc) set it to cw
and hope the guys spacing is precise.

Other suggestion is to try for prefix and suffix separately. And write
down what you can.

Familiarity with callsigns being used can be helpful. Participate in
enough contests and you start to recognize some of the speedsters.

While still learning, check out the dx bulletins online that tell you
who is going where to operate during the contest and what calls they are
using. Also if you have access to dx packet cluster (local or Internet)
do a "SH/DX vp2" to give a listing of stations reported during last
couple of hours. Station you are trying to copy is probably listed
there.

The big question is do you work the station before you know who it is.
Some will suggest doing this and then listening to determine who it is.
However, nothing worse than working someone in massive pileup and never
finding out who it was. This has happened to me more times than I care
to admit.
