I thought I had read about a way to adjust the power out on the 38s last
week. After looking through 1.5 weeks of digests I don't see it.:( Am
I dreaming or did someone actually write something on this and I can't
find it?
My 38s is putting out 8 watts. While I don't mind higher power it is
pretty hard on batteries. I would prefer around 2 watts or even the 4
watts that some are getting. I find that the antenna matching is pretty
critical and can really heat up the IRF510. I have managed to keep the
smoke in but it has been warm.
Most of the mods are done and working fine. I got confused on the TiCK
mod that required cutting the trace at R17(R19?) and C32. I cut the
trace between R17 and C32 which looks like it disconnects all sidetones.
It did on mine anyway.
I was able to get the tuning to 10.100.5 to 10.123.
I have also not done the RIT mod as it seems to cause some drifting
while xmitting. I am very close to putting it a case. The are a couple
of things to try yet like adding the mode by Glen, VE3DNL, to quite the
receiver, and the power adjust( if that wasn't a dream). The radio has
been lots of fun and my family hates it. I have been pretty occupied
with it lately. I don't think that was a design consideration. Hmm,
.... could it every be?
Oh yes, I also want to try to linearize the tuning based on Glen's mod
to the tuning pot. I just noticed that Glen suggested the receiver mod
and the tuning mod. Glen has certainly been busy. It looks like the
tuning mod should fit right on the pot.
Just as a reminder after you have read this verbose message. The
original intent was to find the power adjust mod if there indeed is one.
