Absolutely! Actually it changes the take-off angle substantially. We did
this all the time in New England to get rid of European SWL-BC stations when
working Field Day and other USA-NA contests. If you want to see for
yourself, hang a 40M vertical from a tall tree so the feed point is 6-10
feet above the ground. Attach 4 radials fanned toward Europe to one side of
a SPDT 12VDC relay and 4 radials facing towards the SW to the other relay
contact. If the radial down angles and lengths are near equal, the SWR will
change very little when you apply the 12 V to change radial systems. We've
seen as much as 4+ S-units difference on SWL station reduction, obviously
dependant on ideal takeoff angle on a given night. Using this radial
switcher you can pick up the DX stations to the NE if you want them or focus
on the longer domestic paths.
The most fun is catching ZL's at 4 AM and seeing which way is best, Jim
