Grover, you stated it a lot clearer than I. More important to have a
good number of radials rather than a lesser number cut to reasonance.
I have a Butternut HF2V with 16 radials (all under 30 feet in length)
and the antenna is dynamite, particularly on 40 meters. During the DX
contest this weekend, I worked 9G5, D2, and V51 all on one call. The
antenna stinks on 160 though. I do almost as well with my dummy load.
